A new option, Locality, has been added to the Display options. This will sort the results by geographic location.
Fungus name
Enter a genus and/or species name.
To do a left to right wildcard search append a * to the end of the search criteria. For example av* in the species box would select all of the species starting with av. Sept* in the genus box and cor* in the species box would also be an acceptable entry.
If you only enter a genus name then all of the species for that genus will be selected.
To include variety/subspecies names append a * to the end of the specific epithet OR enter a genus in the Genus field and enter the variety/subspecies name in the Species field (for example, elynae var. elynae).
In order to include synonyms in the search, enter a complete name in both the Genus and Species fields and select "Use synonyms" under Options.
You may enter only one of the following: fungus name, fungus group, fungus order.

You may enter a host family or click on one of the letter groups to view and select a family.
You may search on a host name OR family.
Host Family alone may not be used for a search.
Locality
Enter a country, territory or U.S. state in the Locality field OR select a region/continent.
Selecting Fungus Host will display the hosts listed below each fungus name. Selecting Host Fungus does the opposite.
Selecting Citations will list the literature citations used for the distribution information.
Email
If you enter an email address the search results will be mailed to that address. You may choose to receive
(1) a text file (txt) formatted as displayed on the screen,
(2) an rtf file (rtf) which may be opened in an application like Microsoft Word or
(3) a comma delimited file (comma) which may be imported into a database or spreadsheet.
Emailed results are not restricted to 1,000 records as are results returned to the browser.
Use synonyms
If you check Use Synonyms for the fungus name, synonym and alternate state names in the database will be included in the search.
Checking Use Synonyms for the host name will include synonyms from the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN), Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the PLANTS Database, Natural Resources Conservation Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Nomenclature information will be displayed at the top of the search results.
To use this option, you must enter a complete name in both the Genus and Species fields.
Fungus-Host Distributions. This database includes reports of fungi on vascular plants and plant products according to their distribution by state (for the U.S.) and country taken from over 12,000 literature sources. Currently the database contains 78,000 fungal taxa on 54,000 vascular plant hosts representing 310,000 unique host-fungus combinations. Over 300 countries and territories are included. Records are continuously added as new publications are received. This database was used to produce the book Fungi on Plants and Plant Products in the United States (APS Press, St. Paul, Minnesota, 1989).
