Author

To perform a left-right wildcard search add a * to the end of the name. For example, entering Farr* will return records for Farr, D.F. and Farr, M.L.
You may select an author from this list of authors currently in the database.

Journal

Journal names are mostly those used in Botanico-Periodicum Huntianum (BPH).
You may do a left-right wildcard search by adding a * to the end of the criteria.
You may select a journal from this list of journals currently in the database.
Journal alone may not be used for a search.

Keyword

'Keys', 'illustrations', 'biogeography' and 'media' and country names are examples of the types of keywords used.
Taxonomic categories above genus have been entered as keywords for some records. Enter a category name here to search for such records. To search for records with fungus or host name keywords that belong in a particular taxonomic category, please use the Fungus Group, Fungus Order or Host Family field.
Genus or species names should be entered in the Fungus or Host field.

Fungus

Enter the generic or the generic and specific name.
A left-right wildcard search may be used. Phoma* will return all records starting with Phoma.
Using a generic name only will return records where the fungus name was only entered as a generic name. For example, searching on Phoma will not return records for Phoma aquilina. Entering Phoma* will return both types of records.

Fungus Group

Selecting a fungus group will search for records with fungus name keywords that belong in that group as well as records for which the group name was added as a keyword.
The categories provided are derived from The Dictionary of the Fungi, the Anamorph-Teleomorph database maintained by the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures and a list of hyphomycetes provided by Keith Seifert.
You may enter only one of the following: fungus name, fungus group, fungus order.
Fungus Group alone may not be used for a search.

Fungus Order

The orders provided are derived from The Dictionary of the Fungi.
You may enter only one of the following: fungus name, fungus group, fungus order.
Fungus Order alone may not be used for a search.

Host

Enter the generic or the generic and specific name. A left-right wildcard search may be used. Aster* will return all records starting with Aster.

Host Family

Selecting a host family will search for records with host name keywords that belong in that family as well as records for which the family name was added as a keyword.
You may enter a host family or click on one of the letter groups to view and select a family.
You may search on a host name OR family.
Host Family alone may not be used for a search.

Literature. An outstanding database more than 33,000 references on the systematics of plant pathogenic fungi isavailable. The worldwide literature received at the SMML is reviewed for important references on world distribution, taxonomy, and biology of plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria. Keywords for each piece of literature are derived primarily from fungus and host scientific names and country. Data in this database was used to produce the book Literature Guide for the Identification of Plant Pathogenic Fungi (APS Press, St. Paul, Minnesota, 1987).
