Geographic Distribution and Plant Hosts

Records of occurrence of Puccinia apii on Apium graveolens in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico are primarily from indices of fungal pathogens on plant hosts, with little supporting detail (Mujica, 1945; Watson, 1971; Alvarez, 1976; Hennen, 1982; Mendes, 1998). The 19 collections of P. apii in SBML herbarium all occurred on A. graveolens and there are no reports of any other host in the literature. There is no record of the presence of P. apii in the United States, although there is a reference to its occurrence on A. graveolens in Nova Scotia (Anon, 1923). This reference is an abstract. I could not locate the original source to confirm this observation.
