About 650 yeast species (Saccharomycetes) are known from Earth's habitats,
including plant materials, the bodies of animals, and soils. This site presents
keys, descriptions and images for over 150 taxa of yeasts that were isolated
from the gut and habitat of beetles associated with basidiocarps. Yeasts from
the gut of 23 families of beetles and beetle frass and mushrooms are included.
Several newly discovered yeast clades are associated exclusively with insects.
